About the Author

From bicycle touring to backpacking, watercolour painting to clay modelling, the exploration journal captures my journey through many different interests and travel adventures.

I love to find those out of the way places that whisk you away from the concerns of everyday life. Whether this is by wading through an overgrown river or trying new paint techniques is up to you!

Night Photography in Newcastle

Night Photography in Newcastle

I was in Newcastle for work and decided to take my camera along in case the opportunity arose to do some photography. By the time I finished it was dark but this meant instead of sleeping I could wander around a strange city in the dark and attempt my first go at night photography. Starting from the hotel in Gateshead, I walked towards the huge flour mill and now the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, then onwards over the Millennium Bridge.

I walked up and down the river for a bit looking for perfect reflections of the lights on the water and the best way of including the bridges in one photo.

A boat moored to the promenade was perfectly positioned to capture both the bridges and the reflection in the water.

After the river, I walked up towards All Saints Church and back along Tyne Bridge. The bridge was a bit worrying, with crude poems scribbled on the railing to convince people not to jump. I finished the walk looking out over the river towards Sage Gateshead.
